Introduction

The purpose of this assignment will enable learners to gain understanding of the nature and diversity of hospitality and its constituent industries, including the range of job roles and employment possibilities.
There are four learning outcomes to this unit:
1. Understand the current structure of the hospitality industry.
2. Understand staffing in the hospitality industry.
3. Understand recent developments affecting hospitality.
4. Be able to recognise potential trends and developments in hospitality.

The assignment will describe the elements to analyse the current scale, scope and diversity of the hospitality industry, discuss the organisational structure of different hospitality organisations, assess the role of hospitality related organisations and professional bodies, assess the staffing requirements of different hospitality industries,
discuss the roles, responsibilities and qualification requirements for hospitality staff

To succeed in this unit, you are required to follow the assessment criteria.

Your assignment should demonstrate your understanding of how your research links coherently to these aspects of sales development and merchandising. Your assignment should include evidence of your research with references.

ASSESSMENT TASKS

Task -1 (Individual Report, Introduction to Conclusion, Max-3000 words).

Focus on one UK based hospitality industry (e.g; Hotel, Pub, Bar, Restaurant, Cruise Ship, Café, Etc.)
LO1- Understand the current structure of the hospitality industry.
A.C-1.1: Analyse the current scale, scope and diversity of the hospitality industry.
A.C-1.2: Discuss the organisational structure of different hospitality organisations.
A.C-1.3: Assess the role of hospitality related organisations and professional bodies.
LO2-Understand staffing in the hospitality industry.
A.C-2.1: Assess the staffing requirements of different hospitality industries.
A.C- 2.2: Discuss the roles, responsibilities and qualification requirements for hospitality staff.

Task-02 (Group Task-Presentation)
To succeed in this unit, you are required to follow the assessment criteria.
Your group presentation and individual assignment should demonstrate your understanding of how your research links coherently to these aspects of the hospitality strategically organise and plan for likely future outcomes in order to be successful. Your group presentation and individual assignment should include evidence of your research with reference. This includes linking research coherently to your writing and presenting using referencing (Harvard referencing in line with Mont Rose College), such as bibliography, citing and quotes.

Learning outcomes:
LO-3: Understand recent developments affecting hospitality.
LO-4: Be able to recognise potential trends and developments in hospitality.

Assessment brief/activity
Working in a group of minimum -2 to maximum-4 people you are required to produce and deliver a presentation of maximum 20 minutes duration with a further 5 minutes for questions.

Prepare a group presentation on each of the following topics. You should answer each question giving relevant examples relating to the specific company you have been allocated. You may use diagrams to support your
answers. Please ensure that all sources of information are cited and referenced appropriately.

The presentation and supporting documentation should:

  • Analyse operational, managerial and legislative issues resulting from recent developments affecting the hospitality industry.
  • Discuss the current image of the hospitality industry

LO-4: Be able to recognise potential trends and developments in hospitality.

  • Present justified predictions for potential trends and developments in hospitality.
  • Produce an impact analysis for the predicted trends and developments.
