Family System Assignment Help

Description

I was provided the duty in the psychiatric department of aged care where one patient admitted was in the advanced dementia stage. It was difficult for me to critically analyze the patient and assist him with the correct form of treatment (People,2017). I have tried to listen to the patient attentively and assure him that he would recover from the illness. Feelings In the initial stage, I felt nervous when I was given to handle the dementia patient. Sometimes, the patient tried to attack me with any object that is bear him, however, I have tried to manage him calmly. My feelings for the patient did not change and I felt pity as to why he
suddenly becomes agitated and violent. I thought that it was the same for all dementia patients. Evaluation I was pleased by the co-operation of the other staff members in the psychiatric ward. The area that made me unhappy is to take the consent of the patient who was already a dementia
patient. My experience and learning of attending and listening to the patient have assisted me to tackle the situation (Xu et al., 2018). The family members of the patient were not supportive of me and thus it was difficult on my part to carry out the practice (Jensen, et al., 2016). There has to be improvement made in the standards of practice so that It becomes easier for me to manage such patients.

Analysis

The similarities that I have observed between my experience and others’ experience is the level of understanding of the patient. It is not easier to handle patients with dementia easily and thus I must gain more patience. The patient has tried to hit me with whatever he got and it cannot be considered as a civil or criminal offense in the case of dementia (Xu et al., 2018). I have gained in-depth knowledge and experience to manage such agitated patients in the future.

Conclusion

Thus, it can be said that there should be careful attempts and steps taken by the nurses to handle dementia patients in the aged care center. This is possible through an effective level of cooperation from the patients and the family members.
