This debating topic has been a controversial issue for some years now. Public supporters have strived to execute policies that regulate the recreational use of marijuana for some years. Over half of the states in the U.S. have legalized marijuana; for instance, Washington, D.C., and Alaska citizens took a poll and voted to support the use of marijuana for recreational purposes. This document offers confirmations and rebuttals for legalizing marijuana.
An increase in tariff income to billions of money is a significant benefit of legalizing marijuana. Taxing marijuana industries can yield substantial income hence, generating more revenue for the states’ financial plan. Legalizing marijuana can construct a safer society by providing users with a quality product examined for health violations (Patel, 2019). Besides, accessing the drug by the under-aged will not be accessible due to the black market’s replacement. Legalizing marijuana will impact the economy positively.
However, legalizing marijuana may have harmful effects, especially on human well-being. There will be an increase in marijuana users who will suffer from addiction resulting in anxiety, depression, and even mental problems. Despite the marijuana industry producing substantial revenue, its user’s adverse consequences will enormously dominate, corresponding to alcohol (Estoup, 2016). Therefore, the economy will become a tragedy. Marijuana impairs the ability to judge time, increasing the number of accidents. In the Christian Worldview on legalizing marijuana, it is sinful when consumed in excess. Marijuana is a plant, and God gave us every seed-bearing plant according to the scriptures (Hayes, 2020). However, in the scriptures about alcohol, it is clear that excessive alcohol use will result in sin and immorality.
