How language is impacted by hotels development in Bali
Negative?
– Balinese have their own language that used to communicate with another Balinese
– Due to most international hotels franchise are built in Bali, they require people to speak with language that can be understand each other.
– Especially employees of the hotels, they require to speak English rather than Balinese in their work place because Balinese language can only be understandable by other Balinese.
– When big hotels such as St Regis, Wyndham, etc… operating, they tend to hire foreign people to work in high position. One of the reason is because hotel franchise is monitored by the center of their management and they have to make sure the hotel will have the same products/services/quality over the world.
– The increasing number of hotels in Bali mean more job opportunity and it causes more people to come to Bali. Foreigner will stay in Bali then that means they will bring and use their own language to Bali, so Balinese language will not often to be heard.
Positive?
– As many foreigner means more globally, as in today’s society English is an international language Balinese can improve their language ability if many hotels will be built (something like that) (relate to hotels development topic)
– More hotel more tourists, some tourists even eager to learn Balinese language. Blablabla
Types of work
Negative?
– Balinese tend to work in agricultural sector, more hotels will change the types of work of Balinese. In the past Balinese do something traditionally, as more hotel will be built especially young generation now lay their life into hotel industry.
– Culture in Bali is strong, people tend to spend more time in their society or community, but now since many attractive hotels, they spend more time to work in hotel.
Positive?
– Work in the hotel industry maybe good for Balinese economy blablablaba
Religion
Negative?
– Most people in Bali are Hindu. When hotel is built especially beside the sea, and when the hotels do not care about environment, Balinese have beliefs they breach Hindu practices. Blablabla (need more research)
– Many hotels can be meant many restaurants, as Hindu have belief to not eating beef most restaurant serve beef for tourists.
