This assessment item will relate to one or more of the course learning outcomes depending upon the choice of selected presentation topic.

Overview of assignment requirements

This is an individual assignment for on-campus and off-campus students. Each student is to develop a power point presentation about any area of enterprise systems related to the first six weekly lessons. Along with the power point presentation, students are to provide a handout and a script. Students are to prepare a handout which should be in a format that students can use as a summary of the main points of the power point presentation and include the references. Students are to include their script as part of their power point presentation, that is, what would be said if they were giving the presentation in front of an audience. The script should show clearly what would be said/discussed as each slide is presented. This script can be included in the ‘Notes’ section of your .PPT file.

Your presentation can be about:

1. Any area of enterprise systems that is related to the first six weekly lessons and adds a significant body of new material, a different perspective or depth to the information already covered in the course lecture material. There is scope to research and present more information about many of the weekly topics. For example, in the Development Life Cycle week (Week 4) students maywish to investigate ERP Implementation Life Cycle.

2. Any other topic that is not related to the first six week lessons needs to be approved by your locallecturer.
The titles for the first six weekly lessons are:
Week 1: Introduction to Enterprise Systems for Management
Week 2: Systems Integration
Week 3: Enterprise Systems Architecture
Week 4: Development Life Cycle
Week 5: Implementation Strategies
Week 6: Software and Vendor Selection

CQUniversity Library has many databases that contain refereed full-text journal articles.This is a useful source of material for your assignment.

Please check with your local lecturer if you need to discuss your choice of topic. Remember thatyou must obtain approval for your topic choice if the topic is not related to the first six week lessons.

Presentation development guidelines for all students

  • All students must upload the ‘presentation’ (maximum 15 slides for presentation). The 15 slides limit does not include the title slide, “any questions slide” or the reference slide. Slides with the list of references and an “any questions” slide should be included. All slides must show the source(s) of the content.
  • All students must upload the ‘handout’ (word document) which should be in a format that students can use as a summary of the main points of the power point presentation and include the references.
  • All students must upload the ‘script’ (word document) as part of their power point presentation, that is, what would be said if they were giving the presentation in front of an audience. The script should show clearly what would be said/discussed as each slide is presented. This script can be included in the ‘Notes’ section of your .PPT file.
  • Students must include a slide (after the “Any Questions” slide) with the list of references.
  • Including a section for questions at the end of the power point presentation (after the list of references slide). This should have at least two questions that might be posed by the audience with an appropriate response to each of the questions.
  • Students must ensure that all material used in the presentation is referenced on the slides.
  • Students must ensure that where relevant hypertext links to the relevant references are madein their presentation.

The marking criteria are listed on the presentation marking guide and more detailed notes are provided after the marking guide. Be sure to read the notes as they will also help you to prepare for your presentation development.

Submission of Assessment

All students must submit an electronic copy of this assignment.

• The assignment is to be submitted as a zip file using the electronic assignment submission system that can be accessed from the link on the course website. The zip file should contain thefollowings:

1. The PowerPoint slides.
2. The ‘handout’ (word document).
3. The ‘script’ (word document).
4. Any other relevant material.

Notes

1. Presentation appearance and other first impressions:
• first impression is one of confidence and poise
• presentation format is simple, clear and appealing
2. Presentation structure:
a. Introduction:
• title/topic made clear
• purpose of the presentation is clear
• issues to be discussed are outlined
• unusual terms defined adequately.

b. Body of presentation:
• each issue from the Intro is discussed simply and clearly, and conclusions/recommendations made, if relevant
• sufficient information and detail are provided
• appropriate and adequate use of examples/anecdotes
• discussion flowed logically.
• the material is relevant and new
• good sources of reference material were used to prepare the presentation
• references included
c. Conclusion:
• main points summarised adequately – ideas brought to fruition
• conclusion linked to Introduction and follow from discussion in the Body
• final message is clear and easy to understand

3. Coping with questions/facilitating the discussion:
• including a section for questions at the end of the power point presentation. This should have at least two questions that might be posed by the audience with an appropriate response to each of the questions.

4. Visual aids:
• visual aids clearly visible to the audience
• effective use of visual aids (i.e. integrated into the presentation)
• students will be marked on their use of PowerPoint. Are the slides easyto read? Are the slides too cluttered? Do they contain the main points? Is there good use of diagrams/pictures where appropriate? Are the slides consistent? Is good use made of PowerPoint techniques such as slide transitions and animation or is it inconsistent and distracting?
